Jennifer Docherty
Co-Founder, Founding Director and Chief Executive Officer - Bank on Women
Jennifer Docherty serves on the leadership team as the General Counsel of Performance Trust, a position she has held since 2023.
Prior to that, she was a managing director and associate general counsel in the financial services group at Piper Sandler & Co (previously Sandler O'Neill + Partners, L.P.). She has over 25 years of experience as a senior banking and legal advisor instrumental in developing a mature legal department and dominant capital markets franchise. Docherty is a business-minded lawyer skilled at partnering with bankers, clients, and regulators to identify and resolve issues. Docherty works closely with management teams and boards of directors providing strategic and industry advice and is a sought-after national speaker and regular contributor to articles on banking and gender diversity. She is a collaborative leader integral to the successful development and execution of major strategic initiatives.
Prior to investment banking, Docherty was a senior associate at a New York City law firm working on general corporate, regulatory and securities matters for financial institutions, including mergers and acquisitions, mutual-to-stock conversions, reorganizations into holding company form, and public and private offerings of debt and equity securities.
Docherty is the co-founder, founding director and chief executive officer of Bank on Women, Inc./WIN (Winning Strategies for Boards and C-suites), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the community bank industry on the importance of adding qualified women to the Board and C-suites of community banks. Bank on Women works within the industry to develop and promote women leaders, with the goal of increasing the numbers of qualified women serving on community bank boards and in executive management.
Docherty is also an outside director and chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of Sunrise Banks, socially responsible community bank in Minnesota with locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Sunrise Banks is focused on creating financial empowerment for all.
Docherty holds a Juris doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree with high honors from Lehigh University. She is a registered representative and holds her FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses. Docherty is currently also a Level 4 certified USA Hockey coach and former treasurer of her daughter's Girl Scouts of America troop.
